The Sliders presented some very challenging features. There we’re almost no 90 degree angles on this entire part, and many surfaces were contoured. That along with deep sections and small internal corner radii made this titanium part a difficult to machine project. The material was prepared for machining by cutting a close outline via Water Jet. Using a probing system to accurately locate the material, we then cut a dovetail and locating slot in the material to facilitate complete machining. From there, held by the dovetail, the part was finished on all side using a five axis approach. The dovetail was whittled down to a .01 thickness and finally removed by band saw and the remaining nub blended into by deburr.
